Birders

When visiting Washington Square Park, don’t forget to look up! In addition to the incredible architecture that surrounds the park, you are quite likely to see multiple bird species in the tree canopy. The park is home to numerous species of birds, from our stalwart resident Rock Pigeons and House Sparrows to birds of prey like Red Tail Hawks and Peregrine Falcons, with numerous visiting migratory birds in between.

Many sightings are documented by a dedicated community of birders, particularly in the early morning hours. Through the online eBird database, we highlight the most recent sightings at the park in real time on our website. We appreciate the bird-watching community’s dedication to documenting Washington Square Park’s avian wildlife.
