Village Alliance
Covering the 8th Street Commercial Corridor from 6th Avenue to St. Mark’s Place, the Village Alliance Business Improvement District beautifies the neighborhood and promotes local businesses of all kinds, from restaurants and retail shops to neighborhood institutions and public plazas.

Washington Square Hotel
Located across the street from the northwest corner of the park, the Washington Square Hotel is a historic hotel that has played host to many famous villagers, from Ernest Hemingway to Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, since its founding in 1902.

Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire Memorial
One block east of the park resides a memorial to the disastrous 1911 fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory that claimed 146 lives, mostly young immigrant women. This tragic event helped spark the modern labor movement and is an early example of a cause-based march down Fifth Avenue through the Arch to rally in the park. Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center
Located two blocks west of the park along Waverly Place is the Stonewall National Monument, where in 1969 the Stonewall Rebellion occurred marking a pivotal moment in the LGBTQIA+ movement. Next to the monument itself is the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, the first LGBTQIA+ visitor center in the National Parks System created to celebrate and preserve the legacy of Stonewall.

Comedy Cellar
Located on MacDougal Street one and a half blocks south of the park, the legendary Comedy Cellar is one of New York City’s most famous comedy clubs. Known for its intimate underground setting and consistently outstanding lineups, you never know who might drop in to perform.
